FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What kind of catering do you do?
The FoodSmiths Catering provides anything from drop-off lunches, and party
platters to full service parties with waiters, bartenders, and equipment
rentals. Another of our specialties is the “Dinner Party Revival”.
You provide the Dining Room for your guests and we do all the work. These
services are available for businesses as well as private clients.
Where can I have my party?
Parties may be held at your own location or at one of the many locations
in the area that are rented as party spaces. We have catered events from
a secret
garden white tablecloth picnic next to a canoe trail to a building under
construction transformed into a great dining hall for one night. If you need
assistance
finding a space for your event, call for suggestions.
How do I start?
Call Gretchen, the chef/owner, directly 937-631-3331 or email her at Gretchen@thefoodsmiths.com.
She'll answer your questions, try to help you clarify your vision and put
your entertaining priorities in order. You will talk about the style of party
you're
picturing, the budget you would like to work with, and the services you need.
We'll then create a proposal which will include a description of your specific
service requirements, a menu, and an estimate. We'll work together to fine
tune this proposal and negotiate your budget. After you have chosen us as
your caterer we'll proceed to the contract and deposit. When those steps
are complete
we'll arrange a walk-through of the party site and arrange a tasting of some
selected items.
Who will I work with?
You will be working directly with the Chef/Owner, Gretchen M Smith. She handles
each client personally to ensure the highest quality of service. During larger
events there is also a Captain in addition to Gretchen that can help answer
your questions.
Do you have references?
Of course. We are happy to provide you with a list of references for past
events.
What
if I have a favorite recipe or want to make some of my own food?
Generally we work from our own recipes but will do our best to create or
adapt a dish based on a client's request. Specially Decorated Cakes are one
thing
you can provide, although we do serve a variety of delectable desserts.
How much will it cost?
Good question; no easy answer! This will depend on your guest count, location,
the party style, and overall service requirements. Prices vary widely and
can be custom fitted to your needs. It does help to have a rough sense of
budget
when you begin, so we can give you the best scenario can allocate our costs
accurately.
What if I need a Specialty Station?
Gourmet Salad Tossing Stations, Pasta Stations, Sundae Bars, and Carving
Stations are an example of what we offer on a regular basis. However, other
ideas you
may have are welcome. If you can think of it, we will do our best to accommodate
you!
